Weather Women Jailed
NEW YORK (LNS) The FBI has arrested one of the twelve top Weathermen who were indicted for conspiracy to riot in Chicago last October.
Linda Evans, a former SDS organizer in Michigan and more recently a Weatherwoman activist in the Detroit area, was captured by Federal agents on a street in New York’s East Village.
A man who was accompanying Linda at the time was also arrested and charged with assaulting a federal officer. He was identified as Tom Neiman of Staten Island, N.Y.
On the same day, on the west side of Manhattan, FBI agents arrested another Weatherwoman, Dianne Donghi. Dianne was named as a “co-conspirator” in the Chicago case, not as a defendant. This means that she is listed on the indictment, but will not be brought to trial. She was busted for allegedly buying an airline ticket with a bad check.
Evans’ bail has been set at $75,000, and Neiman’s at $10,000. Evans will soon be transferred to Chicago to await trial; her plans for legal and political defense are not yet known.
The remaining eleven Weatherpeople indicted—Mark Rudd, Bill Ayers, Jeff Jones, Kathy Boudin, Bernadine Dohm, John (JJ) Jacobs, Terry Robins, Mike Spiegel, Howie Machtinger, Judy Clark and Larry Weiss—are still free.
