Raid Victims Bound Over For Trial
All those charged by police in the January 4th “Great Reefer Raid” have by now been arraigned and examined and, with one exception, bound over for trial in Detroit Recorder’s Court. The exception is Magdelene Sinclair, charged with possession of marijuana, whose March 14th examination was continued until March 31st.
As reported in the last issue of the Fifth Estate, Michael Knight and John Nagel were bound over the 1st of March, Knight’s bond continuing at $500 personal and Nagel’s raised to $2,000 cash [FE #26, March 15–31, 1967]. Both are charged with sale and possession of marijuana. On the 14th of March Ron Frankenberger was bound over for trial by Samuel Olson, bond continued at $500 cash.
On the 20th, Sheldon Roth and Sandy Weinstock were bound over by young Judge Gillis on charges of possession, dropped from sale. Bond was continued at $1,000 and $500 personal respectively.
On the 21st of March, John Sinclair, Don Moye and Marlene Croghan were bound over for trial on charges of dispensing and possession in Sinclair’s case (charged with giving away two joints), and sale and possession in the others.
Ralph Greenwood, who was to have been examined the 1st of March, seems to have disappeared.
Since long court battles will be necessary in almost all the marijuana cases, the defendants will need more money than they have.
All donations will be deeply appreciated.
