High School Strike Set
Detroit area high school students will protest the war in Vietnam and commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King in a student strike on April 3rd.
April 4th marks one year since the assassination of Dr. King, who was an outspoken opponent of the war in Vietnam and an active participant in the antiwar movement.
The strike will build support for the April 5th anti-war demonstration to take place in Chicago, part of nationally scheduled actions that weekend against the war.
A Conference to organize the strike and build for the April 5th action will take place on March 22, beginning at 10:30 am in the Mart Room at Wayne State University.
Builders of the strike report widespread support for the strike after contacting Detroit area activists. Large numbers of strikers are anticipated in the inner city.
Students in the suburban high schools are also enthusiastically working on building the April actions.
The high school students are also urging the Detroit Federation of Teachers and other teachers in the Detroit area to give their support to the strike.
